Solid Goat Milk Shampoo Bars
Solid Goat Milk Shampoo Bars from Robards’ Little Farm.
Have you tried a solid shampoo bar and were disappointed in it? We encourage you to give our Goat Milk Shampoo Bars a try!
There are a variety of reasons previous solid shampoo bars may not have worked for you, and we are going to touch on the two main reasons here.
The Shampoo Bar Was Actually Soap.
Many companies make soap bars, both cold process and melt and pour soaps, and market them as “shampoo bars.” If it looks like a bar of soap, it probably is.
This is problematic because it is misleading, and can lead people to distrust the idea of solid shampoo bars. We are obviously huge fans of cold process soap here, but also understand that for many people it does not work on their hair. The milkmaid tried and wanted to like our goat milk soap on her hair, but it was an absolute disaster, which led to the formulation of our shampoo bars.
Cold process soap (both water and goat milk based) has a pH that is too high for most hair types. The high pH opens up the hair follicle, which leads to increased drying time, rough feeling hair, and feeling like there was a heavy residue in your hair. This can actually damage some hair over time.
If the shampoo bar looks and feels like soap, lists lye or sodium hydroxide as an ingredient, states it contains saponified oils xyz, or sodium olivate, sodium cocoate, sodium tallowate, etc., it is actually soap and not shampoo.
The Shampoo Bar Contains Harsh Sulfates.
Say you purchased a shampoo bar that is actually shampoo and not soap, but it left you hair overly dry, or your scalp feeling dry, tight, or itchy. This is likely because of a high percentage of harsh sulfates, such as Sodium Coco Sulfate, or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. These are also commonly found in commercial shampoos, and are popular surfactants.
Our shampoo bars are all sulfate-free, and contain eco-cert plant-based surfactants. They are safe for color treated hair, and all hair types.
We use a combination of anionic, amphoteric, and cationic surfactants, in addition to vegetable based conditioning agents, panthenol, quinoa protein, and a honey based humectant in our shampoo to make a balanced bar that works well in all water types.
In summary, don’t discount all shampoo bars because of a bad experience. We encourage you to give ours a try. There are multiple 5 stars reviews of them on Facebook store, and anecdotally we have been told they help with both hair growth and minimizing hair loss.
